A Changing World Requires Biblical Discernment
In an age of increasing global religious dialogue, legal integration, and cultural exchange, Christians must understand how different belief systems approach law, morality, and authority. Among the most discussed comparisons today is the relationship between Shariah law and Biblical law. These are two separate belief systems. There is no blending, meaning Chrislam is not a Biblical position. Chrislam asserts that Christians and Muslims both worship the same God, which they do not.
While both claim divine origin and provide guidance for human behavior, their foundations, purposes, and outcomes differ significantly. Understanding these distinctions helps believers remain grounded in Biblical truth while engaging the world with wisdom and discernment.
This study presents a clear comparison of Shariah law and Biblical law from a Christian theological perspective.
What Is Shariah Law?
Shariah law is the religious legal framework derived from Islam’s texts and traditions. It governs spiritual duties, personal conduct, and social regulations.
Primary Sources
• The Quran
• Hadith (traditions of Muhammad)
• Islamic jurisprudence
• Scholarly interpretation
Areas of Regulation
• Worship practices
• Family law
• Financial transactions
• Social behavior
• Legal justice
• Governance principles
For followers, Shariah represents submission to God through obedience to religious law. One must understand that the representation of submission is not true submission.
What Is Biblical Law?
Biblical law refers to the moral, ceremonial, and civil instructions revealed in Scripture and fulfilled through Jesus Christ.
Biblical Foundation
• Old Testament law given to Israel
• Teachings of Jesus Christ
• The New Testament covenant of grace
Biblical law emphasizes God’s moral character, human sinfulness, and redemption through faith. Romans 6:14 – “For sin shall not be master over you, for you are not under law but under grace.”
Key Difference
Shariah: External legal submission
Biblical Christianity: Inner spiritual transformation
Different Foundations of Authority
Shariah → Legal Submission
• Emphasizes obedience to religious law
• Integrates religion and public life
• Focuses on outward compliance
Biblical Law → Grace Through Christ
• Law reveals sin but cannot save
• Jesus fulfills the law
• Emphasizes relationship with God
As Jesus emphasized in Matthew 5:17 “I did not come to abolish but to fulfill.”

Works vs Grace
One of the most significant differences concerns how a person is made right with God. This understanding has eternal Ramifications.
Shariah Perspective
Righteousness demonstrated through obedience
Religious duty shapes spiritual standing
Biblical Perspective
Salvation is a gift of grace
Faith alone brings justification
Ephesians 2:8–9, “By grace you have been saved through faith… not as a result of works.”
Civil Authority
Shariah traditionally integrates religious law into civil governance.
Biblical Christianity separates spiritual faith from political enforcement.
John 18:36, “My kingdom is not of this world.”
Christian faith spreads through conviction, not coercion.
Prophecy Watch
Scripture describes a future global system where religion influences worldwide authority. Revelation 13:7, “Authority was given it over every tribe and people and tongue and nation.” Christians need to observe global religious trends with spiritual discernment.
Are There Any Points of Similarity?
Both systems:
• Claim divine authority
• Provide moral guidance
• Address justice and order
• Claim to encourage submission to God
• Shape daily life and behavior
Yet their theological foundations differ profoundly.
How Believers Should Respond
Seek understanding; know the differences clearly.
Stand firm in truth; remain rooted in Scripture.
Proclaim Christ; the Gospel remains central.
John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” Obedience and submission should be to the One true God, the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob.
A Call to Discernment
The comparison between Shariah law and Biblical law reveals two fundamentally different but significance approaches to authority, salvation, and transformation. One emphasizes legal submission; the other emphasizes redemption through grace.
As global systems evolve, believers must understand the times, remain faithful to Biblical truth, and proclaim the Gospel with clarity until Christ returns.
1 Chronicles 12:32, “Men who understood the times.”
