Interpreting the Times Blog/How the Church Should Prepare for the Age of AI

Artificial Intelligence is transforming the world—jobs, families, morality, relationships, and even the nature of truth itself. AI has become so deeply woven into daily life that people now expect it to be part of everything. Healthcare relies on it. Education utilizes it. Retail and manufacturing depend on it. And increasingly, workers fear it may replace them.

There is another area where AI is rapidly expanding, one that receives less attention: the financial sector. Many AI companies today are valued far beyond their current profitability. A rising number of Silicon Valley firms are engaged in what economic analysts call “AI circular deals.” This is where Company A invests billions into Company B, and Company B uses those same funds to purchase Company A’s products or services. Money moves in a circle—no real profit is generated—yet both companies report financial growth.

Some analysts are sounding the alarm that this behavior is inflating an AI economic bubble. If it bursts, predictions are concerning:

They are forecasting the AO bubble could be over 17 times larger than the dot-com crash and over 4 times the size of the 2008 global real-estate crisis.

Regardless of whether the bubble grows or collapses, one thing is clear: the Church must remain spiritually alert and prepared. As Jesus warned, “See to it that no one deceives you.” — Matthew 24:4

How the Church Should Respond

1. Guard Against Deception

AI can now create deep-fake pastors, synthetic sermons, and counterfeit doctrine with frightening accuracy. Churches must remain grounded in Scripture and train believers in spiritual discernment.

2. Strengthen Biblical Understanding

Technology is accelerating theological confusion. AI-generated “truth” will shift constantly. The Church must restore strong Bible preaching, apologetics, and a biblical worldview to anchor believers in unchanging truth.

3. Prepare for AI-Driven Moral Challenges

AI is already fueling hidden sin—especially in areas of lust, fantasy, and escapism. Churches must expand support for recovery ministries that pair accountability with grace and truth.

4. Build Authentic Community

AI breeds isolation. It creates the illusion of connection without relationship. The Church must remain the gathering place for real fellowship, shared worship, and intercessory prayer—things no machine can replicate.

5. Equip Parents & Protect Children

Children will grow up with AI as a constant companion. Churches must equip parents to set boundaries, protect digital environments, and preserve innocence in a world determined to steal it.

6. Prepare for Economic Disruption

AI automation will reshape careers and global commerce. The Church must be proactive—helping believers navigate economic uncertainty while encouraging biblical stewardship and mutual care.

The Ultimate Priority

Above all else: Stay centered on the Gospel and the Blessed Hope. AI cannot replace salvation. It cannot imitate the Holy Spirit. It cannot substitute the Cross or the Resurrection.

Jesus Christ is still the Way, the Truth, and the Life. As society races into an uncertain future, believers must lift their eyes: “When these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” — Luke 21:28

Artificial Intelligence may reshape society—but it can never alter the sovereignty of God.

Maranatha, Lord Jesus.
